Newtons Waterfall
Hidden 10 minutes into the bush of the Misty Peaks Reserve is the stunning Newton's Waterfall. There is a bench near the falls' base, so you can sit and enjoy the view. The track is easy and suitable for small children. Newton's Waterfall might have little water (or even dry out completely) during summer. Best time to visit - after a decent rain, or during late Autumn, Winter, early Spring.

Newtons Waterfall
Track Access / Information
Newton's Waterfall is roughly a 1.5hrs' drive away from Christchurch, or just 7 minutes' from Akaroa centre. The road surface is unsealed for the last 700m. From the car park walk through the gate (signed 'Misty Peaks Reserve') and follow a former road for 5-7 minutes, then turn right onto a side track (signed) which is roughly 5 minutes bringing you to the waterfall's base. There is a bench near the falls' base, so you can sit and enjoy the view. Return via the same route. Total walking time is 20 minutes. The track is easy and suitable for small children. Newton's Waterfall might have little water (or even dry out completely) during summer. Best time to visit - after a decent rain, or during late Autumn, Winter, early Spring.
Weather / What to wear?
Prepare to get wet! This is a beautiful spot and on a hot day can be a lovely cool way to end a hot day or to enjoy a dip after a small hike. Bring your togs and towel.

From Akaroa head south-west along Rue Jolie until you reach an intersection with Aylmers Valley Rd. Turn left onto Aylmers Valley Rd and follow it till its end (1.4km). There is a car park at the end of the road, be aware that there is a limited of parking available at the Aylmer’s Valley Road - Misty Parks Reserve car park.
