Kennedy's Bush
Kennedy's Bush is a mix of regenerating bush and old remnant forest. It has an excellent range of fauna and flora and has been subject to considerable predator control. There are a range of short and longer trails that descend into the central gully of the reserve and the walks require a reasonable level of fitness.
Kennedys Bush
Located in Christchurch Port Hills Area
It may not provide any real variation in surroundings, or shelter from the elements but the spectacular views over the Canterbury plains make this a walk worth trying with the family. A good one for the days where you want to stay closer to Christchurch but still wear the kids out a bit! Being able to explore a bit of the Crater Rim Walkway just over Summit Rd is a bonus too.

Kennedys Bush
Track Access / Information
Kennedys Bush Track is a very accessible popular day and after-work spot for both joggers/runners also sharing with mountain bikers (always stay alert) This wide shared use farm track climbs steadily to Summit Road. The track is mostly through private land, stay on the track and be mindful that cattle can be grazing alongside it. Lambing season is between August and September.
Weather / What to wear?
As with any outdoor activities in New Zealand, the elements are always unpredictable and ever-changing. The entire Kennedys Bush Track is out in a very exposed area of the Christchurch Port Hills due to a recent fire in 2017. Although this can mean beautiful hot Canterbury sunny days, this can also expose you right to the vicious elements it has to offer winds/rain. We recommend you use check-in with appropriate weather forecast service before you set off, but always have wind/waterproof jackets and hats on hand, in case of any circumstance changes.
Facilites
2.km before the Kennedys Bush Road carpark is the Halswell Quarry, here you will find the closet toilet facilities access along with some additional walking tracks. 2.8km further along the summit road (top of Kennedys Bush) - The Sign of the Kiwi, (originally called Toll House) is a small café and shop situated on Dyers Pass on the road between Christchurch and Governors Bay. With a selection of food and drinks/toilet facilities available.

So how did the children find it?
A message from Alba and Maya
Alba says: It’s kind of short… I liked it very much. We could see the city and the mountains. There was lots of snow on the mountains!
Maya says: I loved having lunch up there. I loved playing in the muddy puddles.
